From Weak Resistance to Weak Avant-Garde

EPISODE 14
The art history will not be televised
On feminist research and curating, with Karolina Majewska-Güde

This conversation explores the strategies for feminist art theorizing, history and curating, in which the situatedness of knowledge is not a mere postulate, but the center of interpretative practice. We discuss feminist art projects in the context of avant-garde, and the weak avantgarde proves to be a useful notion for such conversation.

dr Karolina Majewska-Güde is a feminist art historian and curator, working between Berlin and Włocławek. She currently works at the art history department of the University of Warsaw, where she runs a research project sponsored by the NCN, “Painters. The herstory of Włocławek's ceramics”, in which she traces the entanglements of avantgarde art, industry and popular cultures. For many years she collaborated with the Polish artist Ewa Parum, and she wrote a monograph about her art, Ewa Partum’s Artistic Practice. An Atlas of Continuity in Different Locations (Bielefeld: Transcript 2021). She co-creates the research and curatorial collective ‘pisze/mówi/robi’ (writes/speaks/does).
